Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need therapy?

  • This can vary based on the individual but if you feel as if you aren’t functioning as well as you would like to be, therapy can help.

  • Yes, I like to approach therapy from a prevention perspective. Don’t wait until life is too difficult to handle, let’s intervene sooner rather than later and your time in therapy will be shorter.

  • Understandably, there can be confusion here. The difference lies in the work we do together. As a therapist, I assess, diagnose and treat mental illness. As a coach or an advisor, I motivate and encourage people to achieve specific goals. I can help you determine if therapy or coaching is a better fit for you.

How do I pay for therapy?

  • I accept most insurance. I will bill your insurance after each session. Coaching and speaking services are not covered by insurance.

  • Yes, If you have a copay or have not met your deductible and have coinsurance, you will be charged each time we meet.

  • No

  • If you need to cancel, I kindly ask you to call me 24 hours in advance. I often have a waiting list and can offer your appointment to someone else.

How do I find a therapist?

  • I ask clients to give me 2 to 3 sessions. It takes some time to establish a relationship. If you do not feel I will meet your needs or if I believe that is the case, I will tell you and ask you to do the same. You will be able to tell within that amount of time.

  • This depends on your personal preference.

  • This too is a personal preference. There are questions to consider like: Is your faith important to you? Do you believe it is an important part of your healing process?

How will we measure success?

  • Periodically, I will assess if you are making progress toward the goals we created. We will review your progress and revisit your treatment plan. Beyond that, you will notice life doesn’t seem to be the struggle that it was before we started working together.

  • This is a process and it varies for each individual.

  • Yes, and I want you to be honest with me about this. If you feel we are not a good fit, I will help you find someone else that will be. I want therapy to be a good experience for you.
